AgriSatCom
The system for recognizing and analyzing satellite, aircraft and UAV photos for agriculture and archaeology
Project co-funded by the National Centre for Research and Development under the INFOSTRATEG Strategic Programme. Co-funded from the state budget.
About the project
Together with Alioth Intelligence and Warsaw University of Technology, we are building an AI-based system that analyses images from satellites, aircraft and drones for agriculture and archaeology.
Agriculture
The system is to show crop condition, help with yield forecasts and the choice of fertilisers, and assess the risk of plant disease and pests from weather conditions and satellite images. It covers rapeseed, maize, wheat and triticale. We are also building a prototype web platform for following current and archived crop data, for farmers, public institutions, insurers and environmental organisations.
Archaeology
Plants above buried archaeological remains respond to differences in soil moisture, so traces of sites show up in images of fields. We are developing a module to recognise them. Traces that are found can be reported to the regional heritage conservator. The same images serve both purposes, which lowers the cost of acquiring data and the carbon footprint.

Goal
To develop a system for analysing satellite and aerial images (from aircraft and drones) for agriculture and archaeological research.
Planned effects
The system is to predict the occurrence of plant diseases and pests, assess the condition and quality of the main crops grown in Poland, and diagnose threats to crops from disease, pests and bad weather. It is also to monitor changes in agriculture, detect linear objects, land cover and burnt fields, and support carbon-footprint monitoring.
